Spartan gymnasts win first home meet

Sarah Rice led the Spartans to their first win as Bainbridge bested Shorecrest and Shorewood in the season’s gymnastics opener Dec. 5 at BHS.

BAINBRIDGE – Sarah Rice led the Spartans to their first win as Bainbridge bested Shorecrest and Shorewood in the season’s gymnastics opener Dec. 5 at BHS.

Bainbridge finished on top with 151.45 points.

Shorewood claimed second with 121.05, and Shorecrest was third with 120.0.

Rice was first in all-around competition with a score of 33.80 and the team’s three co-captains made a sweep of the three top spots.

Fellow Spartan Miller Shor was second with 31.80, while Juliana Hinkley was third for BHS with 29.65.

Freshman Emma Chee was fourth for Bainbridge with a score of 28.70.

The three Spartan seniors also went one, two, three on the floor exercise and bars.

Rice also claimed the top spot in the floor exercise (8.80), Shor picked up second place (8.30) and Hinkley was third (7.70). Chee was not far behind with a fifth-place score of 7.40.

Rice earned a score of 7.25 and first place in bars. Shor was second (6.8) and Hinkley finished third (6.7).

Julianne Oshiro placed fourth for Shorecrest in the event with a score of 6.5. Key Pearson came in sixth for Bainbridge with a score of 5.6.

On beam, Rice edged Shor with a score of 9.0 for first. Shore followed closely behind in second at 8.8.

Oshiro was third with a 7.1, and Hinkley claimed fourth place for Bainbridge with 7.0.

Shorewood’s Elly Anderson was fifth with a score of 6.9; Bainbridge’s Alathea Pippenger was sixth, 6.7.
