Sad season finale for Spartan tennis team

BAINBRIDGE - The final game of the regular season lead to a downer of an ending for the Bainbridge High varsity coed tennis team last Wednesday when they found themselves down 7-4 against the visitors from Garfield High.

BAINBRIDGE – The final game of the regular season lead to a downer of an ending for the Bainbridge High varsity coed tennis team last Wednesday when they found themselves down 7-4 against the visitors from Garfield High.

The Spartans were beaten in every Boys and Girls Singles match, broke even in the Girls Doubles, won both Boys Doubles and defaulted the Mixed Doubles event.

The loss left the Spartans set to face off against Bishop Blanchet in the first round of Metro Playoffs the very next day.

Against Garfield, Lily Fagerlund, Maddy Britto and Elizabeth Viele were bested in Girls Singles No. 1, 2 and 3 (0-6, 0-6; 0-6; 0-6; and 2-6, 1-6) respectively.

The Spartans suffered three straight losses in the Boys Singles as well.

Holt Ogden (3-6, 0-6), Jeremy Lipshutz (0-1, 1-6) and Kevin Nikomborirak (4-6, 1-6) were each bested by the visitors as well.

The first Bainbridge win came in Girls Doubles No. 1, when Sammi Jiang and Ellie Van Slyke beat their opponents 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Raya Duessen and Caroline Sharp were, however, beaten in Girls Doubles No. 2 0-6, 4-6.

Ben Devries and Eli Wagner claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win in Boys Doubles No. 1, as did Maxwell Brown and Aiden Sullivan (6-2, 6-2) in Boys Doubles No. 2.
