Hurt to help BHS golf team

Austin Hurt will replace Joe Lanza as head coach of the Bainbridge High School boys varsity golf team this season, school officials announced late last week.

BAINBRIDGE – Austin Hurt will replace Joe Lanza as head coach of the Bainbridge High School boys varsity golf team this season, school officials announced late last week.

“With Joe Lanza leaving the Northwest for sunny climate, we are excited to announce the hiring of a new head coach for the varsity boys golf team,” said BHS Athletic Director Kaycee Taylor.

Hurt was raised on Bainbridge and is a proud Spartan himself, a 2006 grad who played varsity golf all four years of his high school career.

The 2004-2005 season was especially exciting, Taylor said, as Hurt and team took home the first-place trophy from the state tourney.

Hurt attended Washington State University and competed for the Cougar golf team during his years there.

He graduated from WSU in 2010 and currently serves as assistant golf professional at Wing Point Golf & Country Club.

Tryouts for the boys varsity golf team began Monday, Aug. 22 at Wing Point.
