Girls lacrossers survive Issaquah upset bid; make another state title game appearance

It was a lot closer than they wanted, but the Bainbridge girls lacrosse team is headed back to the state title game.

They outlasted a late Issaquah run to win 13-12 and play Lakeside at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish for a state title.

Grace Deery-Schmitt had a busy night as she scored the opening goal of the game, got a yellow card, scored another, scooped three ground balls and won a toss faceoff with 27 seconds left in the game to allow Bainbridge to run out the clock.

Jaclyn Biggers led all scorers with five goals, two assists and five draw controls while Hannah Knostman scored and had four ground balls.

The Eagles went on a 4-0 run after Kelsey Mackin scored with 5:31 left in the second half. They never had the lead but closed the gap to one goal at several points in the game.
