Gear Grinders excel in race No. 2

GIG HARBOR – Fourteen high school and 16 middle-school riders from the Gear Grinders mountain bike team raced in the second Washington Student Cycling League event of the season in stormy conditions on muddy single track trails and sneaky uphill climbs at 360 Park near Gig Harbor.

The high school composite mountain bike team maintained their impressive fourth-place position out of 23 teams and the middle school team maintained their ninth-place position out of 20 teams.

The Gear Grinders competed with 22 high school and 20 middle school teams, with a total of 325 riders from across Washington.

On the winners’ podium for the Gear Grinders were: Erin Thackray, fourth place, beginner high school girls; Olivia Cavalluzzi, fifth place, intermediate high school girls; Colton Albee, second place, eighth-grade boys; and Will Donegan, third place, sixth-grade boys.

High School riders earning individual and team points were: Abe Muldrow, Tessa Vroom, Will Robertson, Tyler Pickett, Mickie Wilkinson, Max Hale, Julian Bonifaci, Aiden Brady, Aiyanna North, Connor Lacroix, Martin Vroom, Julian Bonafaci, Thomas Schuler and Duncan Rutherford.

Earning team and individual points for the Gear Grinders Middle School Team were: Edgar Flynn, Nolan Joslin, Will Siebert, TJ North, Erik Hammer, Grant Hoff, Max Guerzon, Max Morse, Liam Reinders, Jackson Stoehr, Ben Stone, Logan Price, Max Morse and Henry First.
