Previously unbeaten Bainbridge led 3-1 at the close of the first inning, but the Cougars climbed back into it with a two-run second inning.

Bainbridge moved to 4-3 in the fifth after capitalizing on an infield error by the Cougars, but Holy Names rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 advantage.

The Spartans scored two in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cougars’ rally continued in the eighth and Holy Names took a one-run advantage, but Bainbridge was unable to answer offensively and HNA slipped away with the win.

Katie Raben pitched the entire game for the Spartans, and gave up 15 hits while recording six strikeouts. She was 2-for-4 at the plate, with two RBI.

Carolyn Williams went 2-for-4 for the Spartans and had a double, while Emily Schneider went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and fellow Spartan Riley Gregoire finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Casey Pelz led Holy Names with a home run and three RBIs. Fellow Cougar Claire McCarthy went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

The loss pushed Bainbridge’s record to 9-1 overall (7-1 Metro League).
