Sasha Carter finished off an undefeated regular season and helped the Montana Grizzlies earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament by going a combined 6-0 in the final weekend of the regular season.

Carter’s big weekend didn’t go unnoticed, as she was named the Big Sky Conference’s women’s tennis Player of the Week. It was the second time this season that Carter, a senior from Bainbridge Island, earned the honor and the fourth of her career.

Carter started things off against Weber State, where she defeated Kristi Elmer 6-0, 6-2. She continued her domination the following day by beating Marian Tangarife of Idaho State 6-1, 6-0.

On Senior Day for the Griz, she turned in her most dominant performance of the season, a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Northern Arizona’s Hailey Rochin. The win helped the Griz earn the No. 3 seed going into the Big Sky tournament.

In doubles, she paired with freshman Catherine Orfanos to complete her perfect weekend. The duo defeated Weber State’s Beauvais/Dodd-Stephens 6-2. They played their toughest match of the weekend when they earned a hard-fought 7-5 win over Tegtmeier/Theus from Idaho State.

The next match against Northern Arizona was a bit easier, as the pair defeated Box/Rochin by a score of 6-3.

Carter finished the season with a 27-9 overall record, including a perfect 11-0 mark in Big Sky matches.

In doubles, she finished the year with a record of 18-11 when playing with Orfanos. The pair had Montana’s best conference record at 8-3.

Carter will attempt to lead the Grizzlies to a Big Sky championship in Sacramento, California. Montana will take on No. 6 Portland State in the first round; UM won the first meeting between the two schools 5-2 on Feb. 15.
