Bright lights and big smiles for Bainbridge LAX

There were smiles all around on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when Bainbridge Island Girls Lacrosse hosted the first LAX Under The Lights.

BAINBRIDGE – There were smiles all around on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when Bainbridge Island Girls Lacrosse hosted the first LAX Under The Lights.

The event was held at the stadium at Bainbridge High for girls of all ages interested in finding out more about lacrosse. Twenty-five girls, grades third through eighth, participated in fun and games, led by BHS varsity lacrosse captains Robin Hilderman, Amy Willerford and Sonia Olson.

Participants warmed up with the high school players, played the ever-popular “shipwreck” game, and had their shots on goal clocked by a radar gun.

The three fastest shots among age divisions belonged to: Avery Pujolar (grades 3-4), Maggie Reibsamen (grades 5-6) and Kendall Havill (grades 7-8). They received special prizes of vintage lacrosse jerseys. All participants received a BIGL T-shirt.

The biggest hit of the evening was a cardboard cut-out of varsity coach, Tami Tommila. Tommila couldn’t be part of the event since it would be a violation of league rules to be present with her high school players with their lacrosse sticks in-hand. BIGL decided that a cardboard cut-out of the Washington Hall of Fame coach would be the next best thing and sure enough, it was!

Registration is now open for youth and high school teams; visit www.bainbridgegirlslacrosse.com to find out how to be a part of this winning island tradition.
