BI gymnasts rule at Regionals

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Five athletes from the Bainbridge Island Boys’ Gymnastics team battled competitors from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington at Regionals April 11-12 in Vancouver. After stellar performances in highly competitive fields, each of the Bainbridge gymnasts ranked in the top 25 in their level and age groups in the entire region.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Five athletes from the Bainbridge Island Boys’ Gymnastics team battled competitors from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington at Regionals April 11-12 in Vancouver. After stellar performances in highly competitive fields, each of the Bainbridge gymnasts ranked in the top 25 in their level and age groups in the entire region.

Frontrunner Aidan Cretarolo dominated the age 11-and-up field of Level 5 gymnasts, claiming first place on floor, parallel bars and high bar and clinching gold in the all-around.

Standout Leo Uyekawa also brought his A game. He battled more than 50 top athletes from five states to snag gold on floor and bronze on vault and high bar. He earned silver in the all-around for the age 9-10 Level 5 group.

Jack Ekstrand had solid performances as well, clinching seventh on pommel horse and landing 21st in the all-around. Owen Scheer also did not disappoint, nailing fourth place on pommel horse and finishing 23rd overall.

Level 6 ace Kiernan Liberman cleared ninth on the high bar amid intense competition and claimed 21st overall.

“The boys worked very hard this year,” said Coach Bryan Garoutte. “I have really enjoyed seeing them compete and support each other. They’ve had a great year.”
