Play in the Washington State Little League (10-11) Tournament ended for Bainbridge Island’s Blue all-star baseball team on Tuesday with a 10-4 loss to West Seattle.

West Seattle continued play in the loser’s bracket Wednesday with a game against Walla Walla. Mercer Island and Bonney Lake/Sumner were the only two teams still undefeated in the 13-team, double-elimination tournament, and were scheduled to play Wednesday.

Bainbridge, which won two of its four games in the Cheney-area tournament, had advanced to play West Seattle with a 10-9 extra-inning victory over Woodinville on Monday. The team opened the tournament last Saturday with a  7-2 loss to Glennwood, but then dominated Riverview with a 13-3 four-inning win on Sunday.

Bainbridge spotted Woodinville to a 7-0 lead, but slowly got back into the game and scored twice in the sixth inning to go into extra innings at 9-9.

Bainbridge held Woodinville scoreless in the top of the seventh, then scored on a single, a hit-batsman and Jason Snare’s line-drive single to win the game.

“That probably was the most exciting game I’ve been involved with as a coach and we’ve played as a team,” coach Troy Aichele said. “Woodinville is a good team. We threw guys out a home, had a couple double plays and caught some line shots for outs. It was a great game.”

Aichele said his players, all of whom are playing in their first state tournament, “were a little tight in the first game with the huge crowds and the teams being good. But we adjusted and started hitting the ball better in the second game.”
