BHS levels Rainier Beach in girls soccer

The Spartans bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Bishop Blanchet late last week to rout Rainier Beach 7-1 Tuesday in girls varsity soccer.

The Spartans bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Bishop Blanchet late last week to rout Rainier Beach 7-1 Tuesday in girls varsity soccer.

Bainbridge came out blasting, and Kamie Coryell scored on a pass from Annika Lesko in the first minute to put the Spartans ahead, 1-0.

Sophia Bidinger split the posts with an assist from Coryell in the third minute of play as Bainbridge climbed to 2-0, and the goals just kept on coming as Annika Lesko converted a solo shot in the fifth minute for a 3-0 BHS advantage.

Seven Spartans scored in the lopsided contest and the Spartans’ offense went unanswered until late in the game.

Coryell fed Mackenzie Chapman for a successful shot on goal in the 16th minute, and Fiona Stephens scored two minutes later at the 18-minute mark to put the Spartans up 5-0.

Catherine Carley booted in the Spartans’ sixth goal at the 38th minute, and a minute later, she passed to Kate Mackin who scored the final goal for BHS on the night in the 39th minute to put the contest at 7-0.

The Vikings finally got on the board in the 70th minute with a goal by Iman Shabazz.

The victory improved Bainbridge’s record to 3-1 in league play (3-3 overall).
