BHS breaks even at Chief Sealth in Metro wrestling

SEATTLE - The Bainbridge varsity wrestling team gave a mixed performance against opponents from Bishop Blanchet and Chief Sealth during a meet at Chief Sealth High Thursday, Jan. 9.

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge varsity wrestling team gave a mixed performance against opponents from Bishop Blanchet and Chief Sealth during a meet at Chief Sealth High Thursday, Jan. 9.

In the first round, the Spartans were beaten by Blanchet with a final score of 45-27.

BHS claimed victories in the 120-, 126-, 138-, 160- and 195-pound classes.

In the second round, Bainbridge fared much better and managed a 45-30 win over Chief Sealth.

After a double forfeit in the 106-pound class, the Spartans proceeded to win eight of the 14 matches.

Greg Williams won by forfeit in the 120-pound class, as did Jonathan Gallivan (126-pound), Chaney Weaver (132-pound) and Aaron Jumpa (152-pound).

Jack Miller claimed a victory in the 138-pound match after pinning his opponent in 1:47.

Dylan Read also brought home a win for BHS in the 160-pound match after pinning Chief Sealth’s Oliver Jackson in 3:23.

Joaquin Gurza claimed a victory in the 170-pound match, pinning his opponent in 1:44, and Spartan heavyweight Mike Grant secured a 11-6 decision in the 195-pound match against Darren Camacho.
