Insensitve suggestion for a Bainbridge nonprofit | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

For me, the proposal to replace the current contract between the Bainbridge fire department and the Bainbridge Island Ambulance Association strikes to the heart of what makes Bainbridge Island such an unusual community: the essence of which is the serendipitous blend of paid staff and volunteers.

Many island organizations such as Helpline House, the senior center, historical museum, art museum, Bloedel Reserve for example plus the various faith communities would be dysfunctional without volunteer assistance.

Of note, the ambulance association and the American Legion Colin Hyde Post 172 has had a long association with an ambulance based in a building on Legion property.

To dissolve this close association for an off-island, for-profit organization, is insensitive beyond belief with regard for our community.

I have only one word for Commissioner Morrow: Resign!
