One of the 2015 Bainbridge Athletic Club doubles tennis teams will be playing in Beaverton, Oregon later this year in a United States Tennis Association sectional event, playing for a chance to continue on to nationals in Arizona in October.

The team competed in the Pacific Northwest Section (USTA/PNW), 55+ women’s 8.0 combined league. As they already placed second in their sub-league, they qualified for sectionals.

At the end of last year, the team, led by co-captains Dawn Snider and Sally Donohue, was in fourth place. They were actually tied for third place, but due to a technicality and recent change in how the points were tallied, they were listed in fourth place. Hence, for the final match, they had to win on all three courts. Nothing less would do it.

During the match on Court One, Dinah Satterwhite and her regular partner Kerrie Houston Reightley were having a tough match, but were successful and ended up winning.

Court Two was on the way to a win, but Court Three had lost the first set very quickly.

Later, though, the score cards showed that the Bainbridge team had come back and won the second set and was in a third set tie-breaker. It was a struggle for every point, and came down to just two points in the end. So, after a very tight match, the team had enough points to move up to second place overall.

At sectionals in June, eight teams will compete in Oregon against other local league winners from Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska.

Teams winning the sectional competition will go on to the national competition in Arizona which takes place in October.
