Bucknell University senior Jillian O’Mara of Bainbridge Island, a member of the Bison women’s rowing team, was presented with the Alvin F. Jackson Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award during the university’s annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet on Tuesday.

The award is presented to senior athletes “for outstanding academic and athletic achievement and future promise as Bucknell alumni.”

O’Mara shared the award with Tim Bolte of the football team, who was the male selection. The two awards were presented at the banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center at Bucknell University in Lewsiburg, Pa. on Tuesday, May 1.

The award comes just a few days after O’Mara helped power the Bucknell women’s rowing team to its seventh straight NCAA Division I team title.

O’Mara helped guide Bucknell to four league crowns during her time as a Bison, and is one of just four rowers in Patriot League history to be a member of the Patriot League “Boat of the Year” four times.

She was a member of the varsity eight all four years, and rowed in the seven seat at the Patriot League Championships in Cherry Hill, N.J. on Sunday, where the team won seventh consecutive team title.

A 2011-12 team captain, O’Mara was a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District At-Large selection in 2011 and is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member.

A two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection, she was a member of the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League Team last spring.

O’Mara is a six-time dean’s list member and a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. She carries a 3.91 GPA and her major is biology and French and Francophone studies, with a minor in peace studies.

She is also a member of the Mortar Board Academic Society, a Leanne Freas Trout French Trout French Scholar recipient and the community service chair of Kappa Alpha Theta.
