Bainbridge breaks even at wrestling twofer

SEATTLE – Win some, lose some.

Or so they say.

The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team won one and lost one last week at a doubleheader match against Cleveland and Eastside Catholic High School in Seattle.

The Thursday, Dec. 15 faceoff began with the Spartans coming up short against the Cleveland Eagles (42-29) and then rising above the Rough Riders (42-36).

The even-steven outing left the island team with an overall season record of 3-0 (3-0 in conference as well) and tied with O’Dea for the top spot in the Metro standings.

In the night’s first match, against Cleveland, there were two double forfeits. BHS claimed three forfeit wins, Cleveland two.

Bainbridge’s Cameron Williams claimed an epic 15-0 technical fall against Louis Lock in the 106-pound bracket.

In the 132-pound matchup, Cleveland’s Ke Mare Newton pinned Oleg Maguire in 1:31.

Cleveland’s Samdap Ly pinned Pedro Delfino in just 53 seconds in the 138-pound bracket.

Nate Michaels managed a win for Bainbridge in the 152-pound bracket, pinning Reality Jordan in 3:06.

In the 170-pound bracket, Thomas Le pinned Bainbridge’s Noah Osborn in 53 seconds. Finally, Cleveland’s Darrick Winston likewise pinned 220-pound Spartan Beto Allen.

In the second match of the night there was only one double forfeit. BHS claimed five forfeit wins, Eastside four.

Maguire redeemed himself in the 132-pound match, pinning EC’s Jared Flowers in 1:21.

Delfino found himself pinned by Joey Winkler in the 138-pound match in 56 seconds.

Spartan captain Hague Bush pinned George Skalaki in 1:59 in the 182-pound matchup.

Finally, Eastside’s Ryan Taylor pinned BHS’ Allen in the 220-pound match in 56 seconds.

The island squad then spent the weekend at the Hammerhead Invitational at Central Kitsap High School Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17. The Spartans will host their first match at home at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, against Kingston and Ingraham.
