Bainbridge boys beat Wilson in water polo finale

TACOMA – The Bainbridge High varsity boys water polo team managed yet another win this year at the last match of the regular season against Wilson High.

The Spartans were up 16-9 by the final buzzer, earning for the island squad a final overall record of 8-1, a flawless 8-0 in conference – and the top spot in the league after the closing matchup Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Tacoma.

Sam Kapel collected the most points against Wilson, finishing the night with six goals scored for the Spartans.

Sam Chapman managed three, Miles Hogger and Jack Kapel each scored two, and Harrison Shinohara, Will Thompson and Thomas Defawe all put up one.

The Spartans will compete in the regional tournament this weekend at Curtis High School, first against Rogers High at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4.

Rogers is seeded in the fourth-place spot in the South League, BHS Head Coach Kristin Gellert said, and the competition is sure not to be an easy win.

“We have to place top four in the tournament to move on to state the following weekend,” she said.

The state tournament is also slated to take place at Curtis High School, running from Thursday, Nov. 10 through Saturday, Nov. 12.
