SEATTLE - Bishop Blanchet claimed an impressive lead early in Friday's game, and the Spartans were unable to overcome in time to turn things around.

SEATTLE – Bishop Blanchet claimed an impressive lead early in Friday’s game, and the Spartans were unable to overcome in time to turn things around.

The Bainbridge High girls varsity squad had to sail home with a 76-39 loss hanging over their heads.

Blanchet outscored the Spartans 24-7 in the first quarter, and again 18-9 in the second.

Though BHS mounted a reinvigorated offensive effort in the second half, it just wasn’t enough. They were outgunned 17-13 in the third and 17-10 in the fourth.

BHS junior Katie Usellis led the team in points and scored 13.

Spartan superstar Taylor Tye managed 12.

The girls team will play again, their first outing in this season’s Metro League playoffs, on the road Wednesday against Roosevelt.
