Annual meeting is tonight for Bainbridge Island Little League

Bainbridge Island Little League will elect new board members at its annual meeting this week.

The meeting is 7:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 in Strawberry Hill Center at at Strawberry Hill Park. The building is located west of the tennis courts.

League officials note they are in desperate need for new volunteers, particularly at the board level, but also to help out in non-board positions.

The need for new help is huge. Many of the current board members no longer have kids playing in Little League, but stayed on this past year simply because of a lack of new volunteers.

Board members also point out that the Battle of the Ballfields was cancelled this year because of a lack of volunteers, and the lost fundraising from that cancellation has put a dent in the league’s ability to improve facilities or even pay for basic needs.

Timing is part of the problem. The Bainbridge Island Little League constitution calls for the election of a new board each September, at a time when prospective volunteers really aren’t thinking about Little League.

League officials are hoping to find parents who are willing to start the next generation of volunteers, so Bainbridge Island Little League won’t cease on Bainbridge.
