Roy Leonard Robeck

Roy Leonard Robeck, 91, of Yakima, WA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Friday, January 4, 2013 at his nephew’s home in St Louis, MO.
Roy was born October 2, 1921 in Seattle, WA to Ole and Ingeborg Robeck. He was raised and educated in Seattle. He married Naomi Ruth Carr on May 26, 1945 in Seattle after his service with the Merchant Marines on the ship Marigold during World War ll. They moved to Bainbridge Island, WA and then moved to Arizona where Roy worked for the Arizona Game & Fish Department, trapping and transplanting antelope, bighorn sheep, javelina, turkey, quail and doves. The family moved back to Bainbridge Island in 1964, later settled in Port Ludlow, WA, then moved to Yakima in 2000 to be closer to family.
Roy was a ship’s captain, serving on Foss Tugboats, Washington State Ferries, sternwheeler W.T. Preston, and the University of Washington Research Vessel the Thomas G. Thompson. He especially enjoyed time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, dogs and his many friends.
Survivors include his two sons, Roy J. Robeck (Gwen Lewis) of Yakima, and Steven C. (Diane) Robeck of Tonasket, WA; six grandchildren, Tiffany Robeck Lobello (Kelly), Eric (Lorey) Robeck, Jason (Jessica) Robeck, Troy (Laura) Robeck, Chad (Corey) Robeck, Kelley (Moroni) Tsai; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Naomi, sisters Ruth Kirkorian and Lillian Hoover, brother, Karl Robeck and a granddaughter, Kirstin Robeck.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Inurnment will be in Seabold Cemetery, Bainbridge Island, WA. Memorials may be made to the Yakima Specialties Foundation, 1819 West J Street, Yakima, WA 98902.
