Martha Butler Haig, of Edmonds, died on Aug. 7. She was 78.

She was born on April 2, 1930, in Tillamook, Ore., the youngest of 7 children.

For 56 years, Martha was the wife of Arthur Haig. She was mother to Karen Haig and Becky Raymond, and Bestemor and Grandma to Simon, Emily and Matthew. She was also loved by her brothers and sisters, John Butler of Colorado, Roger Butler of California, Marian Johnson of Arizona, Elaine Goodman of California, Betty Hediger of Oregon and Richard Hediger of Oregon.

She is survived by a rich and beautiful family that extends through several generations, all of them connected to one another.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW in Lynnwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church for the Huyawa Programme, one of Martha’s favorite charities, which helps to change the lives of orphans and widows in Africa.
