George Owens Gregg

George Owens Gregg

May 12, 1925 – Dec. 31, 2016

Born in Chehalis, Washington, to Marion and Alfred Gregg, George was the oldest of three children. After graduating from high school he served with the Navy during WWII, obtained a degree from the University of Washington, and in 1956 met and married his wife of 43 years, Johanna Tillisch. They moved to Bainbridge Island to raise their children: Tim, Paul, Jon and Alisa.

George made a career in real estate and land development with one of his favorite projects being the Christmas tree farm that he called home near Island Center on Bainbridge. After Joey’s death in 1999 George sold the farm and moved aboard his 42-foot trawler “Noble.” Moored at the Poulsbo Yacht Club, he lived among the close-knit PYC community until his death, independent and self-sufficient to the end and surrounded by his many friends there.

George was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Marion Gregg, sister Bernice and brother James. He is survived by his 3 sons, Tim (wife Lisa), Paul (Terri) and Jon, daughter Alisa Erickson (husband Dave); and grandsons Shane Gregg, Nolan Gregg, Benjamin Erickson, along with step-grandchildren, Barrett and Elizabeth Kanyer.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Feb. 4, at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Poulsbo, followed by a reception at the Poulsbo Yacht Club on Fjord Drive.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Children’s Hospital of Seattle are encouraged. An online memorial can be seen at www.poulsbomortuary.com
