Betty Jane Falk

Betty Jane Falk, age 90

Betty Jane Falk passed away Jan. 15 with her family at her side. Born and raised in Ballard to George Cummings and Julia Jesper, she was the eldest of six children.

She attended Irving Grade School and Saint Alphonsus. The rural lifestyle lured her to Bainbridge Island, the childhood home of her mother. Betty fell for the grandson of an Island pioneer and was married on January 14, 1942 to Filmore Dona Falk. The first of their five children was born just before Fil left for Indochina during WWII. Brief homes were made in Oregon, Bremerton and Seattle before returning in 1950 to Bainbridge, where they remained.

In 1984 Betty lost Fil to cancer. She remarried in 1989 to Iner Falk, a longtime friend, widower and cousin of Fil. Iner’s love, children and grandkids were a welcome addition to her life. Always active, she loved golf and gave her time to the YWCA, Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, B.I. Senior Center, B.I. and Pamona Granges, Steven Ministry, Old Timer Picnic, B.I. Historical Society and W.A.R.C. working with handicapped children.

Betty is survived by sister Bev (Bill) Fleger; brothers George, Walt (Elaine), Stan and Ron (Jeanette) Cummings; sons Jim (Betty), Richard and Tom; daughter Cheryl Falk, Vic Falk and Pam (John) Galloway; and scores or nieces, nephews, grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids.

A celebration of her life will be held on Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge Island.
