Vote gap narrows again in Prop. 1 measure

The gap between the “yes” and “no” vote for Bainbridge Island’s Proposition 1, an $81.2 million bond measure for a new Captain Johnston Blakely Elementary and Bainbridge High 100 Building, continued to narrow in the latest tally of ballots Thursday.

The proposal, however, is still sailing toward passage.

Prop. 1 needs a 60 percent “yes” vote to pass.

In Thursday’s tally, the measure had 62 percent of the vote, with 38 percent in opposition.

The race has narrowed since Election Night (the first count had a 62.2 percent “yes” vote, and 37.8 percent voting “no”).

The previous count by the Kitsap County Elections Division on Wednesday — with 8,876 ballots counted —  showed 5,510 votes for the measure (62.1 percent ‘yes’) and 3,366 opposed (37.9 percent).

Another 229 ballots were counted Thursday, with a total of 9,105 ballots votes cast so far on the measure.

The latest vote tally has 5,641 votes in favor of Prop. 1, and 3,463 votes against.

The Kitsap County Elections Division said the next vote update is planned for 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.
