UPDATE | If the cheese fits, wear it

Teach your children well.

Kind of hard to do when your family is from Wisconsin and the city of Bainbridge Island bans cheese, however.

City Manager Doug Schulze banned cheese from Bainbridge Island City Hall on Friday, in anticipation of the Seattle Seahawks game against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship.

Schulze passed an executive order this week banning cheese and cheese-flavored products on Blue Friday at city hall, a slight aimed at the Packers and their legion of fans known as “Cheeseheads.”

The executive order noted that “fans of the Green Bay Packers are frequently seen wearing obnoxious wedge-shaped foam hats painted yellow.”

The ban nearly exploded the internet, and it drew the notice of Susan and Keith Streckenbach, who hail from Wisconsin but call Bainbridge Island home.

The Streckenbachs have four children, and 4-year-old Freya Streckenbach stopped by city hall Friday afternoon to present Schulze with his very own Packers Cheesehead hat.

Schulze has reportedly offered to wear the hat if Seattle loses on Sunday.
