Turnout will easily top 40 percent for Bainbridge Island

More than a third of eligible Bainbridge Island voters had already cast ballots by just after noon on Election Day, according to Kitsap County Elections.

Bainbridge voters were casting ballots Tuesday, Feb. 14 for a special election that features two levies for the Bainbridge Island School District.

Proposition 1 will renew the district’s property tax levy for education programs and maintenance, with $10.4 million to be collected in 2018 rising to $11 million by 2021.

The four-year levy, if approved, will bring in $42.8 million in property taxes for the Bainbridge district. Property owners would pay $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value, and the rate will rise to $1.54 by 2021.

Proposition 2 is an extension of the district’s technology levy which, if passed, will collect $2.2 million annually between 2018 and 2021. The tech levy will mean an assessment of 32 cents for every $1,000 of property value.

The tech levy will raise approximately $8.8 million over four years if approved.

Many voters have already submitted their ballots in the mail-in election.

According to Kitsap County Elections staff, a total of 7,458 ballots had been turned in just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Bainbridge has 18,831 eligible voters.
