Threat closes Bremerton terminal, ferry rerouted to Bainbridge

The Bremerton ferry terminal was closed Tuesday afternoon following a report of terrorist activity onboard a departing ferry. A ferry bound for Bremerton was rerouted to Bainbridge Island.

Trooper Krista Hedstrom, a Washington State Patrol spokeswoman, said an unidentified person called 911 at about 12:30 p.m. today advising of possible terrorist activities on a departing ferry. Hedstrom said 911 dispatch then lost connection with the caller.

The ferry Hyak left Bremerton at 12:35 p.m. and was turned around to the Bremerton dock where passengers were unloaded.

According to a Washington State Ferries press release, a 12:45 p.m. sailing from Seattle to Bremerton was rerouted to Bainbridge Island. WSF coordinated with Kitsap Transit to transport riders from Bainbridge to Bremerton.
