A citizens’ group has created an online survey to collect input regarding possible uses for the Sakai property.

The survey, accessible at www.surveymonkey.com/r/SakaiParksSurvey2016, asks participants about their interest in a community center, outdoor play areas, recreation facilities, trails, and major building projects (examples: bowling alley, mini golf course, concert hall).

It also asks participants to indicate their support for passive uses (such as protecting the wetlands, creating areas for quiet contemplation, incorporating horses) and mixed-use projects (community garden plots, sports fields, outdoor pool and so on).

The results of the survey will be shared at the next Sakai planning meeting, which will take place at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23.

This meeting is a follow-up to the first public meeting held for the Sakai property on Jan. 23, and will provide an opportunity for members of the community to hear the information gathered during the past two months by work groups formed at the first meeting. To see the list of work groups, visit www.biparks.org. Snacks and coffee will be provided.

The Sakai parcel was purchased by the park district last August through a bond measure approved by voters this past February. It is located on Madison Avenue, across from Ordway Elementary School and the Bainbridge Aquatics Center.
