The big beak is coming to Bainbridge. This Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m., Blitz, the Seahawks mascot, will join the droves at Battle Point Park for SummerFest 2016.

Before you tap his wing and ask for a photo op, you’d better get to know him.

Blitz, not to be confused with Taima the Hawk, the team’s live mascot, was born on Sept. 13, 1998 in the Kingdome. He’s since moved to CenturyLink Field, where he enjoys reading, fitness and birdwatching. Just like that dopey yellow Sesame Street canary, this bird is big: Blitz is 6-foot-1 (a touchdown and an extra point, according to his first language).

Unfortunately, Blitz’s loyal sidekick Boom will not be making an appearance, but the beloved blue bird will have plenty to do, what with live music, food trucks and a plethora of family activities.

Kids’ maestro Johnny Bregar will perform from 2:30 to 4 p.m., followed by Kitsap king Chebon Tiger and Joe Doria from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Freddy Pink plays a dose of everything — classic R&B to rockin’ ’90s horns — from 7 to night’s end.

Bainbridge Kiwanis is running a beer garden, and food will be available for purchase from the Hot Dog Stand, Clara’s Wok and johnnyboysbbq.

Young patrons who completed the Park Activity Book can visit the history booth and claim a special prize. They’ll also have the chance to play on trucks, try out the mountain bike course and get their faces painted.

Day-of tickets cost $7 for an individual and $25 for families.

Tickets can also be purchased in advance at the park district’s Strawberry Hill office, the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center or the Waterfront Park Community Center for a discounted price of

$5 for individuals and $20 for families.
