Starbucks has plans for a second location on Bainbridge Island.

Starbucks has plans for a second location on Bainbridge Island.

The store will be the first company-owned and operated Starbucks on Bainbridge.

The Seattle-based coffee giant — which has more than 20,000 retail stores in 64 countries — is expecting to open a stand-alone coffee shop in the Island Village Shopping Center on High School Road in the coming weeks.

Starbucks applied for a business license with the city last month. The coffee shop expects to have 15 employees.

The company has also filed for three permits from the city; for water-sewer availability, tenant improvements at 337 High School Road, and a sign permit.

City officials said the tenant improvement permit has been issued; the other two permits are pending.

Work at the new location is currently underway.

The Starbucks kiosk inside of the Safeway grocery store on High School Road will remain in regular operation. The kiosk is a licensed location, operated by Safeway, according to Starbucks.
