MUKILETEO – Wow. Just wow.
That should be the reaction, the watery wake, of the big waves left behind by the Bainbridge Spartans after their best-ever performance at the Mukilteo Invite last weekend.
The Spartans won the meet for the first time ever in a competitive girls swimming and diving meet-up that featured more than 19 teams from across Washington.
BHS won with a score of 712.5, nearly 200 points over second place.
Wenatchee High was second (531.5), followed by Lake Stevens (381), Kamiak (366) and Richland (350).
Other teams included Liberty, Mount Vernon, Moses Lake, Archbishop Murphy, Hanford, Sehome, Kentridge, Kamiakin, West Valley, Kennewick and Aberdeen.
Bainbridge swimmers also left the competition with six race results that surpassed state-qualifying times.
Allison Murphy had state times for Bainbridge in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke.
She was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.51; and was also second finisher in the 100 back in 1:00.60.
Teammate Carina Laukaitis qualified in the 500-yard freestyle, and finished fifth in 5:20.13.
State times were also posted by Hannah Tonsmann (500 free, 5:23.95); Melinda Carr (100 breast, 1:09.41) and Olivia Dow (100 breast, 1:10.23).
