U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) said the FBI probe into Russian interference in the 2016 Election must continue without further obstruction from the White House.

Cantwell released the following statement Thursday following former FBI Director James Comey’s appearance in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee:

“We don’t want the Russian government influencing our elections or our democracy and we don’t want the current FBI investigation into Russian interference to be obstructed.

“It looks from today’s testimony that President Trump attempted to influence Mr. Comey to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn or to move off of it, and to try to claim some sort of loyalty to the president, and purportedly fired Comey because of how he handled the Russian investigation. We have to make sure that the White House is not trying to obstruct the investigation. No one is above the law, not even the president,” Cantwell said.
