Thought to be possibly one of the largest garage sales in the country, the Bainbridge Rotary Auction & Rummage Sale is back for its 54th year on Saturday, June 28.

For the past five decades, the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island has helped build and support island parks, sports fields, dance floors and theaters with proceeds from its annual rummage sale.

It has also provided grants to other nonprofit organizations, college scholarships, wells in Uganda and sanitation equipment in Guatemala.

But it’s not like your average neighborhood sale. The Rotary collects and organizes more than six acres of donated items from bikes in all sizes to a rainbow of baby clothes.

Attendees can buy household appliances, bedroom furniture, power tools, and maybe even a small boat.

Donations will be organized by type into 34 departments.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28, shoppers can explore everything from electronics to sewing fabric at Woodward Middle School.

For a $2 donation, attendees can get a sneak peak the evening before.

An auction preview will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27.

Here, participants can have an early strategic view at Saturday’s sale and enter a drawing for a select parking spot at Woodward on the day of the event or early entrance to the sale.

Rotary volunteers will accept donations to sell from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting June 20 through June 25.
