Pedestrian struck by hit-and-run driver

Bainbridge Island police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened this past weekend after a 57-year-old Bainbridge man said he was struck by another driver after getting out of his car at the High School Road roundabout.

The incident happened just before noon Saturday, Dec. 30.

The victim said he was driving north on Madison Avenue when he noticed he was being tailgated by a driver in a dark-colored Honda Civic.

The man said that when he approached the roundabout at High School Road, he got out of his car and started to approach the tailgater.

He told police the other driver put the Honda in reverse, then turned toward the pedestrian and quickly accelerated.

The man said he was struck and went over the hood of the Honda, and landed in the southbound lane of Madison Avenue.

The Honda driver, he said, continued to drive away using the southbound lane, then went the wrong way through the roundabout before fleeing west on High School Road.

The man complained of back pain but declined medical aid.
