A visitor from Rising Sun, Maryland was taken to Harrison Medical Center with a possible head injury after she was hit by a car while crossing High School Road near Starbucks just before 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The accident was the second in recent weeks where a pedestrian has been hit and injured in a crosswalk. Roger Fredrickson, the owner of the downtown gift store Millstream, is still recovering after being hit by a driver while walking across Winslow Way at the crosswalk next to Madison Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24.

In this week’s accident, a 59-year-old woman was struck in the crosswalk on High School Road near Hildebrand Lane on Dec. 8.

According to a Bainbridge Island police report, a 60-year-old Bainbridge woman in a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer hit the pedestrian just after she entered the crosswalk. She then fell and hit her head.

A witness in another vehicle said the Lancer was not traveling very fast when it hit the pedestrian.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
