Overcrowded shelter wants dogs gone, waives adoption fees

The Kitsap Humane Society is overcrowded and wants some dogs gone so it will be waiving adoption fees for all dogs older than 6 months July 14-17.

The waiver is in response to an overwhelming number of strays and dogs surrendered in recent weeks, putting the organization over capacity.

“It’s something that’s happening all over the country,” KHS co-interim director Jamie Nocula said. “Shelters are bursting at the seams with dogs who need new homes or can be placed into foster homes. Every kennel and every foster home at our disposal is at capacity, and we really need the community’s help in finding places for these pups.”

All people in the household are required to come to the shelter for a meet-and-greet before an adoption can be approved. If you have other dogs they must accompany you to ensure a good match. If interested in fostering, go to www.kitsap-humane.org/get-involved/foster-care/.

Kitsap Humane Society is open for adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.
