Hold the phone: U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer will host an hour-long telephone town hall with residents of the 6th Congressional District next week.

The town hall starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31. The Gig Harbor Democrat will give a brief update on his work in Congress, and participants will have the chance to ask Kilmer a question or leave a message with their questions or comments.

Kilmer said the town hall will help him stay connected with the people he represents while in Washington, D.C.

“I’ve always said democracy works best when elected officials are accessible and accountable to the people they represent,” Kilmer said.  “While this doesn’t replace face-to-face meetings, while I’m in D.C. I’m glad to have the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter with the folks I represent.”

It’s the second telephone town hall held by Kilmer, who has also held six in-person town halls across the region during his seven months in Congress.

Residents of the 6th District who would like to join the call can sign up at http://kilmer.house.gov/contact/townhall or send an email to kilmer.teletownhall@mail.house.gov with their name and phone number by noon on Tuesday, July 30.

Residents who sign up before the deadline will receive a phone call at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 inviting them to the town hall.
