Help needed on MLK Day

Ring in the New Year by helping to restore and protect Bainbridge Island’s native plant population.

Weed Warriors will be hosting a work party at IslandWood from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, where volunteers can mark the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday by volunteering to remove invasive weeds and restore the native plant population.

Organizers noted that shotweed must be removed as soon as it appears to prevent the spread of the invasive weed. The fast-growing plant poses a serious threat to local flora and volunteers are needed to help rid the island of the green menace known colloquially as “pop-in-the-eye weed.”
