TACOMA – Bainbridge athletics finished their first day of performances at their respective state tournaments.

In gymnastics, Marie Welsh took first in the all-around with an unofficial score of 38.625.

She’s ahead by .300 of a point over Anissa Madrid from Kennedy.

The junior took first in the vault with a 9.825, second in the bars to Columbia River’s Sysko Nieto with a 9.525, second in the beam to Madrid with a 9.625 and tied for second with Sammamish’s Alexis Osborn with a 9.65.

She qualifies for all four individual events tomorrow.

In team scores, Bainbridge is unofficially third with a team score of 172.075.

Peter Paskell went two and out at Mat Classic XIX.

He lost to Cole Anderson of Everett by pinfall and Josh Barnert of Yelm by pinfall.

In swimming, Austin Hallett is seeded second and third in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, respectively.

The 200 medley relay made it to the championship finals, but the 200 free relay placed out of the championship and consolation finals and the 400 freestyle relay made the consolation finals.

The diving preliminary results were not available.

The 2A/3A gymnastics individual finals are tomorrow at 12:20 p.m., with the awards to be handed out at 2:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

The 2A/3A swimming finals start at 5:30 p.m. at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
