First-ever community picnic planned at Moritani Preserve

The Friends of Moritani Preserve and the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation will host the first-ever Moritani Preserve Community Picnic from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8.

Local Gypsy jazz ensemble Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” will provide live music for the celebration and fundraiser for Winslow’s newest park, locate at the west end of Winslow Way.

Bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy a dessert of strawberries and cake provided by the Parks Foundation.

The 8-acre Moritani Preserve opened for public use in fall 2017 and is managed by the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.

Funds raised through the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation at the community picnic will support ongoing restoration and removal of invasive plant species found throughout the preserve. A donor has pledged to match contributions up to $10,000 for the restoration.

Trail entrances to Moritani Preserve are located on Winslow Way and Shepard Way. Some parking for this event is available at 251 Winslow Way West, next to the Marge Williams Center. Picnickers with limited mobility may be dropped off and picked up at the Winslow Way entrance gate, but there is no on-site parking.
