The Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation invites community members to apply for two grants this October.

Community Challenge Grants, for which applications are due Wednesday, Oct. 14, offer funding to individuals and neighborhood groups who want to undertake projects that will improve and enhance trails, parks and open spaces for users. They are limited to $3,000 per award, and may be smaller depending on the number of applicants.

The JAY Fund Grants, capped at $2,500 per applicant, will be awarded to youth cycling, sailing and skiing projects that emphasize mentoring and volunteer training experiences.

Applications for the grants, which honor Gear Grinders coach Jay Abbott, will be due Thursday, Oct. 1.

Grant descriptions and applications can be found on the parks foundation website, www.biparksfoundation.org/grants.html.
