Submissions are now being accepted for the 2016 Poetry Corners program, presented by Arts & Humanities Bainbridge. Both adult and student categories will be judged by a panel of participating poets, and up to 40 selections will be displayed publicly around Bainbridge Island during April.

As part of a partnership with Earth Art Bainbridge and its focus on climate change awareness through art, this year’s theme is “Nature.”

The submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19.

For more than 15 years, Poetry Corners has showcased original work by local poets. Posted along the island’s busiest routes throughout the month of April (National Poetry Month), the selected well-chosen words inspire passersby to pause, read and reflect.

The contest is open to all Bainbridge Island residents, or anyone with a strong island connection. Submissions will be grouped and juried in separate adult and student (K-12 grade) categories.

The final selections will be displayed in public windows and other areas throughout the community and shared aloud at a celebration reading, “Poetry Corners LIVE!”

All submitted work is judged anonymously, with no names visible, but a maximum of one poem per author will be chosen.

Due to a generous donation from poetry supporters this year, the entrance fee for adults has been kept at last year’s $12. An $8 fee applies for students submissions.

Fees can be paid by check or credit card. Checks should be made out to Arts & Humanities Bainbridge (221 Winslow Way W, Suite 201, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110).
