Coffee with the superintendent meeting is postponed

The coffee klatsch planned for Wednesday with Bainbridge Island District Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen has been postponed.

The public gathering had been planned for Wednesday, March 11 at the Bainbridge Public Library. District officials said Tuesday the event will be rescheduled.

Bang-Knudsen regularly hosts informal get-togethers at the library to talk about current issues in the school district.

The Bainbridge Island School District — and other government agencies across the island — have been grappling with the continuing spread of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Washington state. The school district announced Tuesday that it was asking parents and other visitors to local schools to contact school officials by phone or email instead of visiting facilities.

The second confirmed case of COVID-19 on Bainbridge Island was confirmed Tuesday.

A large number of events on Bainbridge were canceled Monday following the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Kitsap County on Sunday, which also involved a Bainbridge resident.

Additional community events on the island are expected to be canceled or postponed following reports of the second COVID-19 case on the island.
