Coast Guard partners with Kitsap agencies for mock trainings

Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound recently hosted a search and rescue exercise for several Kitsap County partner agencies.

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles and U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle participated, a news release states.

During the exercise, they worked alongside Bainbridge Island Police Department, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and BoatUS.

In the first mock incident, a vessel ran aground on Blakely Rock near Bainbridge Island causing the vessel to flood and injure two people. Ironically, a real-life rescue took place when a ferry ran aground off Lynwood Center.

In the second scenario, two people not wearing life jackets needed rescuing from the water after their boat caught fire near Yukon Harbor.

“Creating these real-world scenarios where we work closely with our local first responders strengthens partnerships and ensures we are all ready to respond when emergencies arise,” per the release.
