Street Dance and BBQ: With face painting, food, live music and more inflatable rides than you can shake a stick at, Winslow Way rarely sees so much densely packed evening action as the annual July Third Street Dance and BBQ. The party runs from 6-11 p.m. July 3 along Winslow Way. Highlights include music by perennial faves The Original Fenderskirts; a children’s craft tent; inflatable rides for children plus face painting, sidewalk chalk, a dress-up photo booth and a climbing wall; cotton candy, shaved ice, BBQ, and the Winslow Oasis, where adults can enjoy a glass of wine or frosty beer. Wings: Dreams of flight inspire artists in many ways. Bainbridge Arts and Crafts’ show from July 3-29 will range widely through images, mediums, and ideas. Our artists have made kites and books; geese and pigs; birdbaths and elegant gentlemen in dinner jackets, flying by night. If they fly, they’ll be in the Gallery in July. Translate the Landscape: From July 3-26, five artists at the Roby King galleries explore and interpret the landscape in a variety of mediums. From Realism to Abstract, in oil, mixed media, pastel and acrylic, each artist “translates the landscape” into a unique and distinctive vision. Grand Old Fourth: The 41st annual Grand Old Fourth of July celebrates a tribute to the Fabulous Fifties. The day’s activities will include its centerpiece, “the Zaniest Small Town Parade in America.” The Street Fair on Bjune Street and Waterfront Park boasts 120 vendors. There’ll be music at the Waterfront Park stage. Also returning this year is the Classic Car Show and the Beer Garden, complete with a Hank Williams Jr. cover band and dancing. Because main roads will be blocked, alternate parking is available at Kitsap Bank, Ace Hardware, Woodward Middle School, and Sakai Intermediate School. Recycling: Bainbridge High School’s Earth Service Corps, Sharon Negri, the Chamber of Commerce, Bainbridge Disposal, and others will be helping Bainbridge recycle on July 4. Clearly marked green 80-gallon toters and smaller blue bins will be set up. Citizens who wish to help can donate at the Chamber of Congress booth to help with the purchase next fall of the Earth Bin composter, which is part of the club’s plan to reduce waste on the BHS campus by 50 percent by 2010. Kol Shalom Falafel: Congregation Kol Shalom will offer authentic, handmade falafel at the Grand Old Fourth Celebration. Bohemian Village: Local artists, including include Cynthia Dice, Gayle Bair, Cleopatra’s Treasures, Kathy Fuerst Duboise, and Mesolini Glass, will sell their works on July 4 at the Grand Old Fourth’s Bohemian Village. Beat Poetry: At noon on July Fourth at the Winslow Green Gazebo, Bainbridge Island’s coolest poets will don their sunglasses and berets for a tribute to the Beat poets of the 1950s. Teen Takeover: Army Corp of Architects will perform at Winslow Mall on July 4, right after the parade. Runners up in the EMP Sound Off! Competition, Army Corp has become one of the Island’s most beloved underage bands. Also performing is Lumberjak (which consists of recent grads from Woodward Middle School). A pie-eating contest and a turbo-bike obstacle course will also take place on Winslow Way.
