YongSuk Cho and David H. Lynch were the top two choices of Bainbridge Island voters for the Position 2 commissioner’s seat on the board of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.

Cho and Lynch were leading in the first vote tally in the Primary Election in the three-way race for the seat. Meghan McKnight is also a candidate in the race.

Cho was far in front and easily collected the most votes during the initial count on Election Night.

He had 2,061 votes, or 61.5 percent of ballots cast in the race, while Lynch had 507 votes, or 23 percent.

McKnight had 15 percent, or 507 votes, in the first vote count.

If the vote tally holds steady, Cho and Lynch will advance to the November ballot.

Cho, 43, has worked as a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department for more than two decades and worked as a career firefighter/EMT for the Seattle Fire Department for more than a dozen years.

Lynch, 63, is CEO of ApoVax, Inc. a biotech company based in Kentucky.

He is taking his first shot at elected office, and has previously served the city of Bainbridge Island as a member of the city’s Harbor Commission.

McKnight, 33, currently works for the city of SeaTac at its code compliance program coordinator. She previously worked for 13 years for the city of Bainbridge Island, most recently as the city’s code enforcement officer.
