BHS shutterbugs nab top honors in photo contest

Bainbridge High School recently took ninth place in the 2017 Washington State High School Photography Contest. Nearly 100 Spartan shutterbugs participated, competing against 65 other schools.

The top three winners in each of the contest’s categories will be a part of an exhibition which will tour the state for one year, with stops at the Tacoma Art Museum and the Seattle Art Museum.

BHS junior Anna Scott won first place in the “Photo Manipulation” category. She wins a cash prize and her photograph is up for the “Best in Show” award.

Other BHS award winners included Nick Chiado (fifth place, “Abstract”) and Shelby Monsaas (sixth place, “Still Life”).

There was also a pack of finalists (among the top 18 in a given category) from BHS, including, in the “Animal” category, Capri Fain; in the “Portrait” category, Konner Vander Leest and Fayth Martin Campbell; in the “Landscape” category, John Merritt and Harper Hults; in the “Color” category, Katherine Jennings; in “Manipulation,” Julia Fradkin; and in “Traditional Film,” Mara Grace Smith.

Select awards (those in the top 10 percent of any category) included Alexis Palomo, Robert Galvin, Ella Goodman, Remy Tait, Olivia Connors, Olivia Sander, Anna Scott, Tristen Knoll, Maya McCosmey, Julia Fradkin, Sarah Lucioni, Jesse Theile, Daden Uhl, Josephine Davis, Isabella Powell, Capri Fain and Kyra Coupland.
