The body of a person at the center of this weekend’s “suspicious death” investigation on Bainbridge Island was turned over to the Kitsap County coroner late Saturday night, Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner said Sunday.

The death is still being considered suspicious, but Hamner said the department is expected to release more information on the death pending a report from the coroner.

“We’ve turned the body over to the coroner to determine the manner and cause of death,” Hamner said.

He added that the department was not yet able to draw a conclusive answer on how the person died.

A report from the corner is expected by mid-week.

Hamner said more details on the investigation would be released to the public “as soon as that report comes back and helps validate some of the conclusions we’re staring to draw from this.”

“Probably Tuesday or Wednesday we should be able to disclose as much as humanly possible about the whole complete investigation,” Hamner said.

Bainbridge police were dispatched to a duplex in the 900 block of Madison Avenue Saturday after a 911 call about 1:30 p.m. The department acknowledged later in the day that an investigation into a suspicious death was under way.

Police have not released any details on the deceased, including the identity, age or gender of the person.

Two persons lived in the home, Hamner said, and limited information was being released because relatives of the deceased are still being contacted.

Hamner said no one has been arrested.

“No one is in custody, and the community at large, we believe, faces no danger,” he said.
