Bainbridge mayor still recovering from heart surgery

Bainbridge Island Mayor Anne Blair continues to recover from emergency heart bypass surgery, city officials said Tuesday.

Bainbridge Island Mayor Anne Blair continues to recover from emergency heart surgery, city officials said Tuesday.

Blair underwent surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane on July 15 while vacationing in Eastern Washington with family when she experienced chest tightness and shortness of breath, according to her family. She did not have a heart attack, but doctors said she needed bypass surgery to eliminate some blockages in her heart.

Blair was not at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Councilman Val Tollefson said her health was improving.

“She continues to get stronger,” Tollefson said.

“She’s walking a couple of miles a day,” he said, and added that the council would see her sooner rather than later.
