The Historic Preservation Commission will discuss the city’s Comprehensive Plan this week during their first meeting of the month.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3 in the city hall conference room.

According to the current Comprehensive Plan, the commissioners are required to collaborate with the city’s Design Review Board to develop design guidelines for projects within or adjacent to historic properties.

They are also required to work with the city to define and identify the city’s iconic structures and sites which should be deemed essential elements of the community’s character, history and identity.

The commission will discuss plans for fulfilling the two requirements during the “new business” portion of its agenda.

Also on the agenda, the group will discuss this year’s grant applications and nominations for the Blakely Awards.

The 2014 Blakely Awards recognizes nominees for outstanding historic preservation or restoration projects on Bainbridge Island.

Nominations were taken in two categories: the Blakely Award for Project of Excellence and the Blakely Award for Preservation Leader.

The commission will announce the awards in May during Historic Preservation Month.
